An open, managed airway is the foundation of any serious resuscitation. This Canadian Red Cross course certifies responders in the adjuncts and techniques that maintain a patient's airway and support ventilation, skills often combined with Basic Life Support and Oxygen Therapy for a complete responder toolkit.

Is this training required?

No, Airway Management is not a general legal mandate the way some workplace certifications are. It is a responder skill add-on. It matters when your role, your scope of practice, or your employer's medical directives call for managing a compromised airway, for example on an industrial emergency response team or in a healthcare setting. If you are a general first aider, this is a step beyond your baseline. If you are a designated responder, it is often the difference between assisting a patient and actively keeping them alive. Certification is valid for three years.
