The Petzl® Brake Bar Without Hook for RACK (D11200) is a plain, hookless replacement bar for the Petzl® RACK caving and rope-access descender. It suits cavers, canyoneers, and rope-access technicians replacing a worn bar in one of the RACK's non-hooked positions rather than retiring the whole descender.

The RACK generates friction by threading rope across a stack of bars on a stainless steel frame, for controlled descents over 80 metres on 9 to 13 mm single-strand or 8 to 11 mm double-strand kernmantle rope. Only one of the RACK's bars needs a hook to latch the frame closed; this bar does its job through friction and placement alone, with no moving latch to wear. Petzl sells it on its own so it can be swapped in without disturbing the other two bars.

  • Swinging Brake Bar for RACK (D11250) – the hinged bar that carries the rope-retaining hook

Common questions

How is the Brake Bar Without Hook (D11200) different from the other two bars?

The Petzl® Brake Bar Without Hook for RACK (D11200) has no hook and does not latch the frame closed like the Swinging Brake Bar (D11250), and unlike the RACK Fixed Brake Bar (D11300) it is not bolted permanently in place.

Why does the Petzl RACK use three brake bars?

Each position in the RACK's rope path wears differently, and only one position needs a hook, so Petzl sells a fixed bar, a hooked swinging bar, and this plain bar.

Is the Brake Bar Without Hook for RACK certified?

No – it is a spare part with no certification of its own, sold to maintain a properly functioning Petzl® RACK descender.
