MNRF-accredited, NFPA-compliant forest firefighting training built for municipal and volunteer fire departments.
When a wildland fire threatens the community, structural firefighters need skills the fireground doesn't teach. SP103 prepares fire agencies for forest firefighting, meeting the training requirements set jointly by the Ontario Fire Marshal, the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).
Is this training required?
Fire agencies that respond to forest fires are expected to train their crews to a recognized wildland standard. The training requirements for forest firefighting are set jointly by the Ontario Fire Marshal, the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), and the work is governed by the Forest Fires Prevention Act (O. Reg. 207/96). Ontario's fire season runs April 1 to October 31, so departments should have crews certified before it begins.
