Advanced-level skills for workplace first-aiders and emergency response teams.
For designated responders who need to go beyond standard workplace first aid, this Canadian Red Cross course builds advanced assessment and care skills for higher-acuity emergencies, the level expected on industrial sites and emergency response teams. It also opens the pathway toward becoming an Advanced First Aid Instructor.
Is this training required?
Not as a general workplace mandate. Most Ontario workplaces meet their first-aid obligation with Standard or Intermediate First Aid, and this advanced credential is not required of every worker. It is intended for designated responders and emergency response team (ERT) members whose role calls for a higher level of care than standard first aid provides. If your site runs an ERT, or your responders are expected to manage serious emergencies while professional help is en route, this is the level built for that responsibility.
Who should take it
- Workplace first-aiders taking on a lead responder role
- Industrial and site emergency response team (ERT) members
- Designated responders expected to manage higher-acuity emergencies
- Responders pursuing the Advanced First Aid Instructor pathway
