nao-rl
Nao RL

The Petzl® NAO® RL is a rechargeable headlamp putting out up to 1500 lumens at just 145 g, built around REACTIVE LIGHTING® technology, which reads the ambient light and adjusts brightness automatically as conditions change.

Petzl markets the NAO RL for trail and ultra-running, where a hands-free light that adapts through a full night leg without manual switching matters most. The same low-maintenance, automatically adjusting beam also suits others moving on foot after dark — search-and-rescue teams on a night search, security patrols, and guides — wherever not cycling through brightness settings by hand is useful. The battery pack sits at the back of the head to balance the unit, and a separate red rear light, continuous or strobe, keeps the wearer visible from behind.

Key features

REACTIVE LIGHTING® automatically adjusts brightness and beam pattern to the ambient light, extending burn time and cutting manual adjustments

Three manual white lighting levels — MAX BURN TIME, STANDARD, and MAX POWER — for setting brightness by hand

Red rear light, continuous or strobe, switched independently of the main beam

USB-C rechargeable battery with a five-level charge gauge and a LOCK function against accidental activation

Specifications

Weight: 145 g

Battery: 3200 mAh lithium-ion, 3.7 V / 11.84 Wh, USB-C rechargeable in 3.5 hours

Watertightness: IPX4 (weather resistant)

Certification(s): CE

Brightness: 1500 lumens maximum, measured to the ANSI/PLATO FL1 testing standard

REACTIVE LIGHTING®: MAX POWER 50–1500 lm/200 m/2–24 h, STANDARD 30–550 lm/100 m/5–40 h, MAX BURN TIME 15–250 lm/70 m/10–64 h

Works with

The Petzl® R1 rechargeable battery is the spare/replacement battery for the NAO RL, so a depleted lamp can be swapped mid-run.

The Petzl® R1 Extension Cord extends the reach of the R1 battery for the NAO RL.

The Petzl® UNI ADAPT adhesive clip (pack of 4) mounts a Petzl headlamp, including the NAO RL, on a variety of helmet types.

Common questions

What does REACTIVE LIGHTING® do on the Petzl® NAO RL?

The Petzl® NAO RL uses a built-in ambient light sensor to automatically raise or lower its brightness and beam pattern as surroundings change, giving consistent visibility without manually switching modes.

How bright is the Petzl® NAO RL and how long does it run?

The Petzl® NAO RL reaches 1500 lumens at MAX POWER with a 200 m beam and a 2–24 hour burn time, or up to 64 hours at its lowest REACTIVE LIGHTING® setting.

Is the Petzl® NAO RL waterproof?

The Petzl® NAO RL is rated IPX4, resisting splashing water from any direction, but it is not rated for submersion the way Petzl's IP67-rated headlamps, such as the DUO S, are.
